This bourbon chicken recipe is one of the Chinese chicken recipes that uses alcohol to flavor the chicken. The unique flavor makes it a popular demand.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breasts -- 4, boneless, skinless, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • Vegetable oil -- 1 1/3tsp

  • Cornstarch -- 1 tsp

For Marinade:

  • Soy sauce -- 1/3 cup
  • Thick soy sauce -- 1 1/3tsp , or 2/3 tsp of molasses

  • Sugar -- 2/3cup

    ( You can also use brown sugar)
  • Bourbon -- 1/3 cup

  • Fresh ginger -- 1 1/3tsp , finely minced

  • Garlic salt -- 2/3tsp


Instructions:

Step 1:

  • Mix all the marinade ingredients together in a large bowl until all the sugar has dissolved.

  • Put in the chicken pieces to be well coated and marinate in the refrigerator overnight. Be sure to cover the bowl tightly to keep the alcohol smell in. A container with a tight fitting lid is best.

Step 2:

  • Drain the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later use.

  • Mix the cornstarch with a little water in a small cup and set it aside.

  • Heat oil in a large non-stick pot or wok on high. Add the chicken and cook it a few minutes until its color becomes brown. Then stir in the reserved marinade slowly and bring it to a boil.

  • Add the cornstarch mixture and stir until it becomes thick. Now the chicken is ready. Serve with rice.
