Chinese Doughnut Recipe

This Chinese doughnut recipe lets you have Chinese style doughnut that creates an amazing melt in your mouth feel and make you yearn for more.

Doughnuts have become quite popular in various cuisines. These Chinese doughnuts are delicious pieces of dough that are deep fried and tossed with powdered sugar. You can also make it with sesame if you want the authentic Chinese variation.

Using sesames for doughnuts might make you feel foreign, but that's exactly why it's Chinese doughnuts, not the doughnuts you're familiar with. Sesame seeds are nutritious and have a wonderful crispy taste.

Sesame seeds also are rich in iron, copper, manganese, calcium, vitamin B1 (thiamine) and vitamin E (tocopherol). They also contain lignans, which are phytoestrogens with antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. They are the unique content of sesamin that sesame has.

Bye the way, do you know why Chinese like to use sesame oil? One reason is its taste, of course. Sesame oil has the highest antioxidant content among edible plant oils and contains phytosterols associated with lowering cholesterol levels.

Here is the Chinese doughnut recipe.

Chinese Doughnut Recipe Ingredients:

  • Water -- 2 cups
  • Sugar -- 4 tablespoons
  • Salt -- a pinch
  • All purpose flour -- 3 cups, sifted
  • Eggs -- 5
  • Peanut oil -- 5 cups
  • Powdered sugar or regular white sugar for dusting
  • Seasame seeds (optional) -- toasted

Chinese Doughnut Recipe Directions:

  1. Mix water, sugar and salt in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar and salt dissolve.

  2. Turn off the heat and slowly add the flour into the pan; keep stirring to make sure the flour is thoroughly mixed. Set aside to cool.

  3. Use a mixer on low speed to beat the eggs and the cooled mixture.

  4. Heat the oil to 375 degree Farenheit in a wok. Meanwhile prepare a rack to drain the cooked doughnuts nearby. Fill a large bowl or a brown paper bag with powdered sugar.
  5. When the oil reaches 375 degree Farenheit, use an ice cream scooper to slowly add about 7 to 10 scoops of dough to the oil. Don't put too many in. The doughnuts will double their size in the oil.

  6. Cook doughnuts until they become golden brown. Remove and drain on the rack. Then toss them in the prepared sugar bowl or sugar bag.

  7. Repeat until you've finished all the dough.

  8. If you like to use seasame seeds, toss fried doughtnuts in a bowl that contains toasted seasame seeds. You can also mix some sugar with seasame seeds to satisfy your sweet tooth.
